I’ve watched the reverse happen. I’m a pretty intense person. When I decide I want something, I focus on it clearly. I know exactly how I want it to happen. While that is sometimes a strength, it is also a great weakness – because if things don’t work out the way I want them to, I’m not very happy. Like if the reality of the weekend doesn’t match the fabulous plans I had made earlier in the week, I’m not very much fun to be around. Yes, you read that right. Even The Happy Gal is sometimes not very happy! And since I don’t like not being happy, I have looked at what contributes to that. Again, see the quote above. I’m unhappy when I get too attached to the way I think things need to be.
So if you want to be happy, it’s a good idea to accept the fact that often the very thing we are desiring doesn’t always show up gift-wrapped in the paper we were expecting. But to reject the gift altogether just doesn’t make any sense. I think things like joy and gratitude and peace are all around us…if we have the eyes to see them.
Hoping you are looking for good in unexpected ways today!

I love this Jenny. It’s a wonderful reminder to let go of the idea of perfection. In all aspects of our lives. Our bodies, our family vacations, birthdays and holidays. All of it. Not everything is going to go exactly the way we want it to. Heck, not even my wedding went the way I really wanted it to, but the people who were supposed to be there were there, and it all worked out in the end, and I have happy memories of that day. All because I let go of the idea of perfection.
I’m happy you had a good day today!!
Thanks Holly. Thank heavens you embraced this on a day as important as your wedding day! Love you!
